It’s your business, make sure it’s listed correctly.

Your business listings on sites like Google Places, Yahoo Local, Yelp, Bing, and others are often the first time a consumer is introduced to your business, so it’s important that you claim your listings on the websites where consumers are most likely looking for you. If you’ve ever found a business this way, you know how important these listings can be to promote and manage your web presence and reputation for sites that allow reviews. You should claim your listings on search engines, local directories and review sites that are most used by consumers searching for you.

A sight that I have used many times with my customers is Getlisted.org.  This sight allows you to author most of the common local listing places.  Set aside some time before you start this process. It can take a few hours if you have never done it before.

Most of these sites require the you to verify the listings as they’re being claimed.   Sometimes this happens right away, or it can take a few hours or days usually in the form of a phone call or a postcard.

Once your information is verified, you can start updating or adding content. You want to make sure that you spend time making sure the content is complete and accurate.   After your listing is claimed and content is added, you should check back regularly to update your information.
